Positive Changes in the UK Aesthetics Industry

Published on 19 April 2026 at 10:49

Over the past year, the UK aesthetics industry has undergone significant and much-needed change. For many years there has been a large grey area surrounding non-medically trained practitioners delivering aesthetic treatments, along with products being used that were not properly regulated by the UK medical industry. This has understandably been a concerning situation for both professionals and patients.

As a medical professional and nurse prescriber, I have unfortunately witnessed the upsetting results that can occur when procedures are carried out incorrectly or by individuals who lack appropriate training. In some cases, the outcomes of poorly delivered treatments can take months—if not years—to correct. These situations can be distressing for patients and highlight why proper standards and regulation are so important.

That’s why it’s incredibly encouraging to see real change beginning to take place. Stricter guidelines are being introduced across the aesthetics industry, helping to ensure that treatments are delivered safely, ethically, and by appropriately trained professionals. Greater scrutiny of both practitioners and the products being used will ultimately protect patients and help raise the overall standard of care.

If you are considering an aesthetic treatment, there are a few key things to check before booking an appointment:

• Ensure your aesthetic practitioner is properly trained and qualified.

• Confirm that they hold appropriate insurance for the treatments they provide.

• Make sure the products they use are UK-regulated and medically recognised.

It’s also important to remember that extremely cheap treatments should always be approached with caution. High-quality aesthetics require high-quality, medically regulated products, as well as the skill and expertise of a trained professional.

Taking time to research your practitioner is one of the most important steps you can take before having any aesthetic treatment.

After all, you’re worth it.
